A venture must generate sufficient revenue and margin to survive. But profit alone does not establish that it is solving an important problem, strengthening productive capability or creating durable value for customers, workers, partners and society.
Profit is essential—but it is not the complete design brief
Enterprises that ignore commercial reality become dependent and fragile. Enterprises that pursue short-term extraction without strengthening customers, capabilities or markets may also destroy the conditions that sustain future revenue. The better question is therefore not whether profit matters, but how commercial value can be created alongside wider productive outcomes.
Begin with a problem worth solving
Opportunity development should start with evidence: who experiences the problem, how frequently it occurs, what it currently costs, which alternatives already exist and what improvement a customer or institution will accept. This converts a broad social ambition into a specific value proposition that can be tested.
Align business and technology
A technically attractive idea is not automatically a viable enterprise.
